At the high school level, especially here in California, your kids are getting the bare minimum in regards to sound, year round S&C. Sport coaches barely have enough time to prepare rosters and practice plans there is no wonder the weight room goes unused for most high school athletes. Coaches still believe that long distance running is a good form of conditioning and that pitchers need to run poles in order to flush lactic acid from their bodies. It is these exact mindsets why your kids are weak, slow, and under prepared when they face schools that do invest in their athletes. Most schools have weight rooms, but your kid probably doesn't even know where it's located on campus.

Kids need good coaching, not more weekend tournaments.

Practice, extra lessons and all the tournaments in the world will never be enough. If kids aren't actively lifting weights and sprinting year round, they are missing out tremendously on what real development is. I call bullshit when you say you train on your own or you workout at home. Prove it by actually posting the boring stuff instead of another highlight reel from another meaningless win and plastic trophy.

Consistent strength and conditioning training throughout the year allows high school athletes to improve their overall performance in their respective sports. This includes increased strength, speed, agility, and endurance, all of which contribute to better athletic outcomes.

In summary, year-round strength and conditioning is essential for high school athletes. It enhances performance, develops skills, builds mental toughness, promotes long-term athletic development, aids in adaptation to training loads, and fosters team cohesion. Prioritizing these training programs can significantly impact an athlete's success and well-being. You should want all of these things for a young athlete at home.
